It’s hard to believe that I’m actually back in the United Kingdom. The past 24 hours have been hectic…yes…I had to repack my bag about 3 times before I was happy enough to throw in the back of the car! Flying Air Canada turned out to be a great choice. The commuter flight to Toronto was quick and waiting in Toronto International was pleasant–excluding the awful Starbucks, that I will have to call and complain about…I never thought I would dislike a visit to Starbucks but the awful baristas there made the impossible, possible…
The most amazing thing was upgrading the seats on Air Canada. It only cost $75/person to get a front isle exit row seat. We didn’t have anyone in front of us which meant about 4 feet of awesome leg room! The TV use was also free AND had a USB port ANNND an electric socket so I could keep my computer charged while photoshopping!…only me and few others can manage to do work while vacationing!
After landing it was quick jolt through Customs and going through the Heathrow Underground we managed to get into London Paddington station (that isn’t on fire from the riots…) and then Tim got to go on his first British Railway trip…pretty much it involved me seeing that our next train was to leave in 2 minutes….then screaming RUUUUNNN!!!….and Tim just following me and then eventually us jumping onto the train. We made it though!
The hotel was another surprise…the bad thing is that it’s about 10 miles outside of Oxford City Center…the good thing is that we paid $35 a night (American $$$) and got an executive sweet with tons of room and a full bath…there are actually 2 Starbucks side by side in the building next door…I can get used to this…
We went into Oxford after a quick nap and did some site seeing and had dinner. The weather so far has been amazing and it’s looking good for tomorrow. Tim will get the chance to meet with the head of Plant Sciences at Oxford and I’ll be roaming around with my camera.
More updates to come soon!
